How to Write a Resignation Letter

Resigning from a job can be a daunting task, but it is important to do it in a professional and respectful manner. A well-written resignation letter will help you leave on good terms with your employer and maintain a positive relationship in the future.

Here are the steps on how to write a resignation letter:

  1. Start with a formal greeting. Address your letter to your immediate supervisor, or to the CEO if you do not have a direct supervisor.
  2. State your intention to resign. Be clear and concise about your decision to leave the company.
  3. Provide your last day of employment. Give your employer at least two weeks’ notice, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  4. Express your gratitude for the opportunity. Thank your employer for the opportunity to work for the company and for the skills and experience you have gained.
  5. Offer to help with the transition. If possible, offer to help with the transition of your responsibilities to your replacement.
  6. Sign and date your letter. Print your letter on a professional piece of paper and sign it in blue or black ink.
